Niigata West Port is on the river mouth of the Shinano. The west breakwater is one of my favorite fishing spot ( Pic.1,2 ). Waters are not clear and there are many concrete blocks. So if you wish more beatiful nature, go to the river mouth of the Agano.

I told that I enjoyed seabass fishing well this summer on the Agano river mouth ( here ). After that we had so much rain that rivers became muddy and torrent. So I went to the west breakwater. There are two sides there, one is the sea side and the other is the river side. When rivers are muddy, we can enjoy fishing on the sea side.

It was raining and the water of the Shinano was muddy on the morning of August 18. When I arrived, a group of small seabasses was boiling on the surface of the sea. I got two seabasses of 40cm and 47cm in length ( Pic.3, 4 ). Probably muddy and torrent river water pushed them out from the river mouth.

Next morning I also found seabass boiling and caught a seabass of 53cm ( Pic.5 ). If I had a boat, I could fish many. But it was difficult to get them from the breawater, for seabass boiling was far from the shore.

The fish in Pic.7 was not caught on the breakwater. The water was getting clear, and I went to the Honsen Ohashi bridge on the morning of August 30, which is located for the several kilometer upstream from the river mouth. The fish looks like a trout, as it is on fresh grasses, but is a seabass ( the length was only 37cm ).

We had much rain and the river became muddy again. I went to the sea side of the west breakwater on the morning of September 2. I caught two seabasses; 47cm and 41cm in length ( Pic.8, 9 ).

This summer was so rainy and cold than usual. But fishing on the river mouth was good and thus fishing on the breakwater was not so bad. I had really enjoyed it well, and I will never forget it.
