Squid and Barracuda fishing in September

Small Fish

Japanese anglers love small fish fishing; like dace, smelts, horse mackerels, sardines and so on. For those are easy to fish and taste good.

In autumn squid fishing is interesting. Squid are called Aori-ika in Japanese. We fish it with Egi which is one of lures imitating prawns. Barracuda fishing is also fun. I enjoyed both well.

Barracuda you know is a big and ferocious fish. Japanese barracuda is also ferocious but is very small, the length of it is about 25 cm.

That morning I went to Niigata West Port and cast Sabiki to the river mouth of the Shinano. Fishes were biting well and soon I got a lot of barracudas and horse mackerels. Main dishes of the dinner in that evening were grilled fish. Those were delicious.

Aori-ika ( one of squid ) is about 25 cm in length. Pic.2 shows a squid and a Egi. Aori-ika is a beautiful squid. It is holding my an Egi. You see an Egi is imitaiting a prawn. Aori-ika is the most delicious squid in Japan. We eat aori-ika as Sasimi, and sometimes we grill or boil it.

It was rainy that morning. I went Niigata West Port and caught barracudas.

It was a sunny Sunday. First I fished squids . Squids were brown or green the morment I caught. But soon those became transparent white ( Pic.4 ).

Then I got a lot of barracudas ( Pic.5 ). I got a big haul in that morning.

Pic.6 shows two squids and an Egi on September 16. The colors of Egis are pink, green, brown and black. It is difficult to choose the color. Fundamentally, pink is best in early morning. When the water is cloudy, pink is good, too. In the daytime dark color is favorable. When the water is clear, blue is suitable.

In that morning squids were biting well. It was the first time I got more than ten squids. Pic.7 shows a beautiful squid holding a pink Egi. Pic.8 shows all of my squids I fished. Squids ejected inky liquid and these squids seems dirty, but never.
